Illustration Friday: Hoard

This balloon cheeked vermin was inspired by the Illustration Friday topic "Hoard".

I gave myself three hours to create the illustration (from concept to final piece). I experimented with a style that I want to cultivate - line art with color washes. The black line is India Ink; the color is acrylic with colored pencil. I did this on toothy, "cold press" watercolor paper.

Heh. I love it. I love that he can't keep his butt down because his cheeks are too heavy, and I love the idea that one false move and the whole stash will come out Howitzer style.

SUCH fun!

Sometimes your best pieces take the least amount of time. Very funny and clever. It has a fun, Looney Tunes quality but the style remains your own. Nicely done!

What a beautiful illustration, and all done within three hours?! Impressive stuff. Great blog too.

Excellent- Greedy little guy indeed! I do like this new technique of yours - especially how the ink just pops the character enough without being too harsh or 'outline-y'.

hihi... absolutely perfect!... but seriously if you had big cheeks like that, wouldn't you be just a bit tempted to see how many acorns would fit in 'em too? Maybe it's just me...

I want to see something "fierce." Like something attacking a certain something... Make it so!

Varying the line weight is great! Really makes those cheeks have some visual dominance! Works great!
