Velociraptor with All the Fixin's

UPDATE: I decided this post was perfect for the current Illustration Friday topic, Similar.

I'm doing a lot of research on dinosaurs for a book series I'm illustrating. Theories about dinosaurs are constantly changing, but one idea that seems to have gained consensus is that birds evolved (or devolved) from meat-eating dinosaurs.

When I was eating my turkey this year, I kept thinking about the similarities between a Butterball and a Tyrannosaurus Rex. My mind wandered to a parallel universe where folks eat Velociraptors for Thanksgiving.

Happy Holidays everyone!

And to all you vegetarians, I apologize for this gruesome post–I hope you enjoyed your Tofurky!

It's a weird, unexpected surprise to see this latest post...but I like it! Very funny and impressive that with all the work you have to do, you made time for this wacky tribute to Thanksgiving. The raptor looks great. Bravo!

The Chili Family very much enjoys watching Alton Brown's "Good Eats." In one episode, he demonstrates how to de-bone a chicken, and he uses as his model a wooden skeleton of a dinosaur. I'm betting the similarities are more than you think.

Mrs. Chili, I'm sorry I missed that episode! Our turkey bones went into making soup stock–I should have made a dinosaur instead!

I'm not sure what the paleontologists would say about velociraptor and lettuce co-existing. Or maybe that's some kind of fern?

This illustration is fantastic!!
I don't care what the paleontologists say,
with a drawing like this, there's no way it could be wrong.

Actually, my family ate a velociraptor last thanksgiving, how ironic.

Haha, this is brilliantly drawn. Sad to say, I often think of these things s well, and as a vegetarian, I'm not offended (and while i love Tofurkey, though i must admit to having a bite of mom's turkey).

Wow. That is way cool. What else would be in your parallel universe?

I love your sense of humor and all the details. Very nice.

I wanna see the whole dark Christmas card now. LOL

Ha ha ha- that's very clever. Maybe if a turkey more resembled its ancient ancestors, people would think twice about holiday dinners. :)

Great pic...you can't beat a good dino pic I say...10 years from now they will say they evolved from fluke worms...

Definitely devolved.
